Have we had enough of Y2K yet? Apparently not. While the fervour surrounding low-rise jeans, platform Uggs and butterfly clips has certainly lessened since 2020 (a period when we all, rather inexplicably, began considering frosted tips), it definitely hasn’t disappeared altogether. Case in point: the return of the stud.

But make no mistake, these aren’t the studs that adorned the chunky belt you wore slung low over your hips. You know, the one that served no other purpose than that of fashion. These studs are cool, fresh, Y2K inspired, but not plucked straight from the fields of Coachella, if you know what we mean. Once the go-to for punks and indie sleaze Tumblr girls who idolised Cory Kennedy, the 2024 stud feels much more refined. Pioneered by Khaite (you know the bag we’re talking about) and Alaia (with those studded ballet flats), the trend has hit fever pitch. Everything from belts to clogs and entire dresses are being covered in rivets and chunky silver hardware.

Want to dip your toe in? Or maybe you want to dive in head first. Either way, this is how to shop the trend at The Galeries.

Toga Pulla AJ1342 Ballerinas, $875 from Incu on Ground Floor

A mary jane with a touch of cowboy cool.

Coperni Studded Logo Tank Top, $450 from Incu on Ground Floor

Not your average tank, this is the perfect way to bring some grunge to your look.

Small studded belt, $34 from Dangerfield on Lower Ground Floor

If you want to dip a toe in the water of this trend go classic with the traditional studded belt.

Acne Studios Cunov Fade Stud Cap, $250 from Incu on Ground Floor

A nod to the notion of hardware for those of us who still prefer a minimalist look.

Eyelets Jewel Kitten Heel Pumps, $625 from Ganni on Ground Floor

The ultimate sexy kitten heel that will make you feel powerful just wearing them.
