It’s designed to disguise, with origins rooted in warfare and espionage, but right now, camouflage print is in the spotlight. A confluence of factors has seen the pattern sneak its way into the fashion and pop culture mainstream, with everyone from musician Chappell Roan to Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz sporting it with confidence. But how did we get here?

Camo was big in the early 2000s courtesy of hip hop and RnB groups hailing from America’s south, like N.E.R.D and Destiny’s Child, but its relevance wavered as we approached the 2010s. It’s return is thanks in large part to burgeoning American musician Chappell Roan and her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Drawing on her midwestern roots, Roan’s taken camo — a print typically associated with hyper-masculinity, hunting, and conservatism — and reclaimed it from her position as a queer female pop star. Tim Walz, also from America’s midwest, has done the same, redefining camo for a younger, more politically engaged audience (Harris / Walz campaign merch topped in camo might be the hottest accessory of the present moment). And designers are on board, too. Cool young things like Marine Serre and Sandy Liang have found places for camo in their recent collections, while A$AP Rocky (a long-standing fan of the print) sent plenty of it down the runway at the debut of his brand AWGE.

Whether you prefer to blend in or like to stand out, here we round up the camo pieces to shop at The Galeries you can very easily do both in.

For when you can’t decide whether you want to be more or less, reach for International Gallery Beams’ reversible bomber. Camo print on one side, khaki green on the other, you can lean into the Americana trend however you see fit.

If you’re not ready to go full camo, but are willing to dip a toe in, start with A.P.C’s bum bag. It’s equally at home on a hike as it is hitting the town. Fill it up, sling it crossbody and you’re good to go.

Consider this camo for the girly girl. Texturally delightful — there’s netting, knots and strands of fabric hanging feather-like from the skirt — Blanca’s Carla skirt is a statement and a half. You certainly won’t go unnoticed in this one.
